5. Sendero de los Arrayanes – Lago Escondido – Playa Los Troncos

  • Difficulty: Moderate 
  • How to get to Sendero de los Arrayanes – Lago Escondido – Playa Los Troncos: Head directly West of Villa Llao Llao and you will see the trail entrance directly near picnic benches
  • Duration of hike: The average person will take roughly 3 hours to complete this trail
  • Trail length: 6 miles
  • Elevation: 1,181 feet
  • More information: Sendero de los Arrayanes – Lago Escondido – Playa Los Troncos 
  • This may be the lowest choice on the list but let’s just say this may be the highest choice on many others’ lists
  • When it comes to hiking in San Carlos de Bariloche, you cannot go wrong with this trail. Even if you decided to simply choose this one trail to invade… I would completely understand
  • This trail includes stunning views, wooden pathways and is overall a very well-marked trail
  • Don’t worry about the moderate label for this trail. In my opinion, this trail is pretty easy, sure there is elevation but once you pursue this trail you will ask yourself… was there really elevation?

4. Refugio Frey via Villa Cerro Catedral

  • Difficulty: Hard
  • How to get to Refugio Frey via Villa Cerro Catedral: The trail is directly in the city of Villa Cerro Catedral on the Western side
  • Duration of hike: On average, you can expect to take roughly 6 hours to complete this trail
  • Trail length: 11.6 miles
  • Elevation: 2,742 feet

  • If you think this is the toughest trail on the list… just wait for number 3
  • Though this trail can be difficult, it makes up for that in its stunning views, particularly of mountains
  • My highest recommendation when it comes to this trail is to pursue it during fall for the peak of absolute beauty in terms of a visual standpoint 
  • The high tier marking for a near 12-mile trail is staggeringly elegant, this was my favorite thing about the trail

3. Colonia Suiza – Laguna Negra

  • Difficulty: Hard
  • How to get to Colonia Suiza – Laguna Negra: You will find this directly West of Colonia Suiza off of highway 79
  • Duration of hike: It’s not uncommon to take over 8 hours to complete this trail
  • Trail length: 15 miles
  • Elevation: 3,113 feet
  • More information: Colonia Suiza – Laguna Negra
  • Don’t worry, this will be the most difficult trail on the list and yes… it really is difficult. If you are new to hiking, I may not suggest you go for this hike unless you really want a challenge built on sheer agony
  • The parts where you are actually going uphill are when you are ascending mountains, climbing these glorious mountains will give you access to amazing views
  • The further you go on the trail, the more challenging the trail is going to get. The good part is that on top of all the phenomenal views you’ll have a marvelous time going back 
  • In terms of Hiking in San Carlos de Bariloche, I would highly recommend this trail for people that want a challenge

2. Cerro Llao Llao vía Sendero Villa Tacul

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • How to get to Cerro Llao Llao vía Sendero Villa Tacul: Similar to number 5 you want to go near Villa Llao Llao, directly West of it, to the right off of Circuito Chico and you will see it past the picnic tables
  • Duration of hike: On this hike, you can expect to average around 2 hours to complete this trail
  • Trail length: 3.5 miles
  • Elevation: 895 feet
  • More information: Cerro Llao Llao via Sendero Villa Tacul
  • This could possibly be labeled as the easiest trail on the list in terms of elevation, trail markings, and overall experience. It would be a competition between this trail and the next one
  • Not only is this trail predominately easy but it comes with a massive bonus… the viewing of beautiful and expansive lakes
  • I would have to say out of all the trails on the list, this would be the most family-friendly hike. If you plan on going with a large family, look no further for this is a magnificent trek for a family 
  • When hiking in San Carlos de Bariloche, someone will have to bring this trail up due to its marvelous reputation for being a complete package in terms of well-roundedness
  • If I had to make one complaint it would be… actually I cannot even form even a nuanced complaint when it comes to this ravishing trail

1. Cascada de los Duendes – Mirador Lago Gutiérrez

  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • How to get to Cascada de los Duendes – Mirador Lago Gutiérrez: Head South of Villa Los Coihues, at the end of Parque Nacional Perito Moreno will be your destination
  • Duration of hike: This trail takes most people at least 1 hour to fully complete 
  • Trail length: 2 miles
  • Elevation: 564 feet
  • More information: Cascada de los Duendes – Mirador Lago Gutierrez
  • If there’s one trail in the entire San Carlos de Bariloche area that I would want you to visit it would one hundred percent be this trail.
  • On this trail, you will be able to camp, look at rivers, lakes, bring your kids, and view out-of-this-world waterfalls
  • This is another trail that is really easy compared to most trails around the world. If you are a beginner, I would highly recommend coming here
  • Since we are talking about hiking in San Carlos de Bariloche… I had to bring up this mammoth of a trail, this is one of the most beautiful trails on the planet, let alone in Bariloche
  • In my opinion, to come to Bariloche and not visit this trail is nearly a crime against humanity
  • It’s tough to stop talking about this amazing trail… It’s also marked very well. Come on over, you will have memories that last a lifetime
