Today we’ll go through a list of the best things to see in Vienna, Austria. I have tried to compile a list of not-so-common areas that most people seem to miss out on when they venture towards Vienna.


A few places you may recognize and most likely a few will be completely brand new. I hope you enjoy this small guide!

Things to see in Vienna, Austria
  1. The Donauturm
  • This is the highest point in Vienna, though this may not be the biggest secretive area in Vienna… I decided to include it because of all the people I have found to have no idea of its existence
  • There is a place to eat here by luxurious windows giving you what may just be the best view of Vienna. However, if you don’t want to eat there, do not worry, you don’t have to. Just go on up and say you are there to view the magnificence
  • Though this may not be the most unknown place in Vienna, I can promise you this list will include places that even some people that have been in Vienna all of their lives will not know about
  • Location: Donauturmplatz 1, 1220 Wien, Austria
  • Hours: After April 1st they are open Monday to Sunday 10:00 am until 11:30 pm

Beautiful Museum
  1. Museum of Art Fakes
  • I bet you didn’t see this coming did ya? If the concept of witnessing the most magical art forgeries bestowed upon the universe interests you… You are in for a treat
  • There is an actual museum of re-created famous pieces of art to such a ravishingly high quality and it’s here
  • This is a very interesting museum as I’m sure you are already somewhat interested, I have found this place to be somewhat irresistible with most people
  • If while you are in Vienna, there is a day where there’s some not-so-wonderful weather or you need a relaxation day… I would highly recommend the Museum of art fakes, though you may not want to leave
  • You will learn a lot about art, particularly forgery in this museum, including one interesting fact that it’s presumed that over 20% of all art is a forgery 
  • Location: Löwengasse 28, 1030 Wien, Austria
  • Hours: Tuesday – Saturday from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm Sunday from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Amazing books
  1. Austrian National Library
  • If you enjoy the texture and content of a finely crafted book I have quite the surprise for you
  • This is the largest library in all of Austria and was astonishingly founded in 1368
  • Even if you don’t enjoy the concept of reading, I promise that you will fall in love and adore the architecture of this marvelous building
  • The same architect that crafted Schönbrunn Palace crafted the Austrian National Library. His name is Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach
  • The library is totally free to get into. However, there are museums inside that are not completely free. The museums inside the Austrian library include the Papyrus Museum, the Globe Museum, and the Esperanto Museum.
  • Location: Josefsplatz 1, 1015 Wien, Austria
  • Hours: They’re usually open daily from 10 am to 6 pm but Mondays are not definitive

  1. Micronation
  • This place fascinated me immediately and goes by the name of The Republic of Kugelmugel
  • This is a small creative microcosm of the universe and it is located directly in Vienna
  • The story behind its creation is that the artist Edwin Lipburger was hostile towards the idea of people not allowing him to create a ball-shaped home. Ed was not having this and decided he would go the entire distance and create his own Republic in order to allow him to create this masterpiece. This was finalized (declared official independence in 1975)
  • In relation to things to see in Vienna, Austria you cannot go wrong with seeing this creative world icon.

  1. Heislbucht
  • If you are looking to get out of this city and see more of a naturalesque view of life, this one will be for you. I don’t know about you but when I’m traveling sometimes I like to see areas that do not have 5,000,000 people around me constantly. A place to breathe and feel as if I can maneuver my physical and metaphysical body
  • This is technically a massive gorgeous pond and one in which you can go fishing and boating
  • This area of water has a trail around it that you can walk, jog, run, bicycle, UFO, whichever method you prefer to traverse this path

  1. The Wonder Garden in Schloss Schönbrunn
  • You will be star struck at your first glance at this garden
  • I will warn you after you see this garden you will judge every garden you see afterward much more intensely 
  • This is a wonderful time when you just want to walk, take some photos, and have a wonderful chat with someone
  • I absolutely had to include this phenomenal garden in the list of things to see in Vienna, Austria because most people just visit the Schloss Schönbrunn Palace without even seeing this mystical garden
  • Location: Schönbrunner Schloßstraße 47, 1130 Wien, Austria
  • Hours: 9:30 am to 5:00 pm every day

Architectural beauty
  1. Ernst Fuchs Museum
  • The first time I heard about the Ernst Fuchs Museum I thought “why would I bother” then once I gave in to my friend’s willful blindness I didn’t want to leave!
  • The special thing in my opinion about the Ernst Fuchs Museum is the meaning behind not only the physical embodiment of the actual objects. There’s also a sense of completeness behind this museum, it’s something really special
  • Ernst Fuchs was an artist, the co-founder of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism, 
  • If you are into spiritualism, psychology, or symbolism this museum is really going to knock not only your socks off but your shoes will be following suit
  • Location: Hüttelbergstraße 26, 1140 Wien, Austria
  • Hours: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm every day except Monday

Beautiful
  1. Palace of Justice
  • I’m completely appalled that more people do not visit this palace
  • The architecture is unbelievable and its located well within a short distance of many of the widely known Austrian tourist areas
  • For things to see in Vienna, you would be hardpressed to find places of higher stature in terms of overall architectural beauty
  • This building is home to the seat of the supreme court of Austria and was finalized in 1881
  • At first, you may say you aren’t interested in a Palace of Justice. However, this is no normal Palace of Justice, this building is an architectural marvel on a level that most people have not witnessed
  • Location: Schmerlingpl. 10-11, 1010 Wien, Austria
  • Hours: 7:30 am to 3:30 pm every day except Saturday and Sunday

Beautiful park
  1. Sigmund Freud Park
  • You are going to love this place, especially for a picnic or for a glorious evening of pure relaxation
  • Sigmund Freud Park is located right beside The University of Vienna so you can guess that there are some fun places you can visit while you are in this area. 
  • The best feature in this park, in my opinion, is the marvelous water fountain, I’m sure you can imagine how difficult it is at times to find a simple water fountain
  • If you are a huge fan of Sigmund Freud, after this park you can make your way to the Sigmund Freud Museum which is also in Vienna. Sigmund Freud lived an interesting life in Vienna considering he opened a practice in Vienna and had to leave to escape Nazi persecution. Freud stayed in Vienna for almost 50 years! He and his family left the country of Austria towards Paris, inevitably to London on June 4th, 1938. Freud lived in Hampstead, London until he died a year after in 1939.

  • Hours: 24 hours but I’m not sure how they would feel about you putting a tent up

Hundertwasser Village
  1. Hundertwasser Village
  • Behold possibly one of the most interesting things you will ever see!
  • This is a creation formed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser. He created cafes, shops, and a rooftop forest, all out of what used to be a tire factory!
  • This is an absolute must-see Vienna attraction, you’ll never forget it. The first view of this astonishing creation will leave your brain trying to conceptualize the meaning of life
  • For things to see in Vienna, this is the highest on my list simply considering that the mere act of coming here will bring you memories that you will never lose
  • Location: Kegelgasse 37-39, 1030 Wien, Austria
  • Hours: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm every day
